Chapter 3 Things are now in motion that cannot be undone

Things are now in motion that cannot be undone as I have committed myself to a busy tournament schedule this month. I come to you on the eve of battle as I make my way to a tournament in Balin’s Tomb near Huntsville, Alabama this weekend. This is the first of three tournaments that I will be attending this month with the next one in Atlanta, Georgia and the third one being hosted by yours truly in Nashville, TN! My main army theme for this month will be Minas Tirith allied with the Dead of Dunharrow. Why this route instead of the return of the King Legionary Legion? Allow me to explain!

Speed painting the night before a tournament

I know many folks may prefer to run the Return of the King Legendary Legion as you receive Anduril for free and have access to Legolas, however I have not witnessed much success of this Legion on a competitive scale. Some of the downsides of running the Legendary Legion include only having access to F3 troops and non mobile heros. We can negate some of these issues by allying Minas Tirith with the Dead of Dunharrow. You will see in an 800 point list below that I have included Guards of the Fountain Court that will support my Warriors of the Dead allowing for F4. I take King Elessar as my leader. I know this is not very thematic as the dead have already fulfilled their oath before Aragorn became King, however even though you are essentially paying more points for Anduril, the ability to have an armored horse, heavy armour, and the 6” banner effect for all units and not just spirit models as in the LL makes this extra cost all worth it. Allying this way also allows you access to cheaper units in this case Warriors of Minas Tirith to boost numbers. As you can see I do not take much shooting in this list but going this route also gives you access to additional archery than just Legolas in the LL.

You will notice my model count is still quite low, however the D8 and D7 along with the staying power of the high courage dead and bodyguard should hopefully make up for the lower numbers over the course of the game. I also chose to include Hurin as his Line of Command Special rule will allow King Elessar to be more aggressive and Hurin’s In Defense of the King special rule goes hand in hand with King Elessar. Hopefully I will face a good amount of low courage armies as the dead should rip through them, however if not the plan would be to stale and lean on the killing power of King Elessar. I will definitely share the results of this weekend’s tournament and will also be running a revised version of this list at 700 point in Atlanta later this month. Thanks for reading!
